Today we live in a world that is used to the immediate – an immediate response to an email or an immediate ‘like’ to an Instagram post.
We don’t have to wait anymore for someone to write a letter back to us or wait for something to be delivered, we have Amazon Prime for that!
We are used to the immediate and we like the immediate – but what about our goals?
When we set goals, we won’t get immediate responses – we won’t change immediately, it takes time to change. We won’t lose weight immediately, it takes time to change our eating patterns and choices and start exercising.
When we set goals, we need to develop our patient perseverance, we need to take one step at a time, we can’t do everything at once, we need to keep taking the steps forward, even when it’s hard. If we think our goals will be met immediately, then we may give up when this doesn’t happen.
We need to be patient and show commitment, we need to push through and develop perseverance – even on days when we struggle or fail.
We need to keep stepping towards our goals and if they are important, we’ll be open to developing patient perseverance, rather than wanting an immediate response.
Knowing our ‘why’ is helpful for developing patient perseverance – why have I set this goal? Why is it important to me?
These questions will help keep us focussed on the long game – on the steps towards your goals.
Consider your current goal and reflect on whether you’ve shown patient perseverance so far in your steps towards it.
