We all juggle don’t we? Life is full of things we juggle. We also juggle both external and internal stuff.
Some of the external stuff we juggle – different roles, responsibilities, challenges, finances, development, relationships, the list goes on.
How do we juggle all of these things well? How do we juggle so we don’t feel overwhelmed and like we can’t cope?
I have come up with a few tips that have been helpful for me.
Firstly, I need to know what my priorities are. I need to know what is important and urgent so I can do those tasks first.
Secondly, I need to use my time wisely. For example, if I spend time sitting down watching TV, I will be wasting my time and not completing the tasks I need to.
Thirdly, organising myself and my tasks really helps. I get my clothes ready the night before, I prepare my food the night before, I pack my gym or BJJ stuff the night before.
I have a ‘to do’ list, so I know what tasks I need to complete for the day or week. If I didn’t write things down then I would forget – which means I would need to spend time thinking about the tasks I need to do, rather than just cracking on with them.
Next, I find it helpful to stop, review and re-plan. Something may come up that is urgent and important and so that task will take priority.
I can then look at my ‘to do’ list and see what could be moved to another day. This process shouldn’t take long, so I can continue to juggle without being overwhelmed.
And finally, I need to ask for help or take a break. As we juggle, there may be some tasks that we don’t have to do and we could ask others to do.
Or sometimes we need a sit down and a cuppa, to rest and take time to reflect, before we go again.
There are obviously other tips, but these are the ones that came to mind for me.
